Product Description

In 2004, Lincoln Center commissioned Glenn Ligon to create a limited edition print entitled Boy on Tire for the Lincoln Center Festival.

The print is based on Ligon’s well-known Colored series -- paintings in which the artist appropriates images from 1970s coloring books aimed at black children. For the series, Ligon made copies of pages from the coloring books and asked a group of schoolchildren to color them in. The pages were then silk-screened in a larger scale onto canvas and Ligon mimicked with paint, what the children created. The resulting works became some of the most iconic of the artist’s career. The works address the connotation of the word “color” – whether it is simply a childhood pastime, the quality of a painting, or a racially charged epithet. Edition of 108. Dimensions 41 x 31 ½ inch.
